Road Trip in Northern California

This summer my boyfriend and I decided to take a vacation to Northern California. We flew into San Fransisco, rented a car, and drove two hours South to Carmel where we stayed in a cute Airbnb cabin that was on a farm in the valley. Horses, chickens, cats, and dogs were all keeping us company while we ate the best truffle pizza I’ve ever had and enjoyed our first night in California.

One of my favorite highlights of the trip was when we went whale watching in Monterey Bay. I wasn’t sure if we would see anything, but we were lucky enough to see 12 humpback whales! They were all swimming around our boat, jumping out of the water, and putting on a show. It was surreal to see how wildlife acts in the wild. The only drawback was that my boyfriend got seasick, and when we got back on land it felt like we were still on a boat for hours. Not something I would recommend to someone prone to motion sickness.

Another great memory from the trip was driving down Highway 1 through Big Sur. It was about a 3-hour drive from Carmel to Cambria, but the views were unreal and we found ourselves stopping every few minutes to look at scenic overlooks. We found an amazing restaurant called Nepenthe, which was located on a cliffside with breathtaking views. It was a wonderful pitstop on our trip south.
